맥슨사의 9-시리즈는 전세계의 페달전문가들 사이에서 믿을 수 없는 전설을 만들어 놓았죠!!

이유는 간단합니다.

지금 우리는 트루 바이패스 스위칭 시스템으로 한 층 업그레이드된 9-시리즈를 만나게 되었습니다.

맥슨의 9-시리즈는 여러 아날로그 이펙터들의 교과서적인 존재로 남아있습니다.


그중에서 OD9은 우리에게 '튜브 스크리머'로 많이 알려진 모델입니다.

이 모델은 단지 한때 유행하던 이펙터로 보일런지도 모릅니다.

하지만 그 외관과는 달리 내부의 구조에서는 많은 변화를 찾아볼 수 있습니다.

요새 우리가 많이들 접하게 되는'튜브 스크리머'에는 'TA7555BR' 이라는 IC 칩이 장착되어 있습니다.


이 칩은 진공관 재현 드라이브 사운드를 만들어주는 아주 핵심적인 부품입니다.

아시는 분은 다 아시겠지만 같은 튜브 스크리머라도 만들어진 시기별로 이 IC 칩의 종류가 다르답니다. 

맥슨사의 OD9에는 80년대 초반에 사용되던'JRC4558'이라는 IC 칩을 사용하여 기존의 모델보다 한층 더 오리지널리티를 재현했습니다.

'JRC4558 IC'는 'TA7555BR IC'보다 비교적 더 따듯한 느낌의 톤을 가지고 있다는 평을 받고 있습니다.

한때 매니아들 사이에선 품귀현상에 아주 고가(?)에 거래되던 부품이라더군요!

맥슨사에서는 이'JRC4558 IC'가 기타리스트에게 꼭 필요한 다이나믹한 오버드라이브를 제공한다고 설명합니다.

그것도 아주 극단적인 매끄러운 톤으로 말입니다.
